How to go hand in hand with Jee Main and Cbse preparation?

It has been observed that for students who are willing to pursue Engineering as part of their college studies, Class XII is perhaps the most difficult and challenging class of their school studies. The reason behind this is the simultaneous preparation for the JEE Mains exam and CBSE exams. Both exams are held an odd month apart. In such a scenario, it becomes really difficult to manage the preparation for both of them. According to sources, JEE Main 2019 will be held twice a year i.e. in January and April which may hamper the CBSE Board preparations significantly. Therefore, aspiring students will have to strategize for their preparations to pass CBSE and JEE major exams because a great strategy along with a right attitude can do wonders.

While both exams are conducted by the same body that conducts the exam, they vary greatly from one another. While CBSE boards are subjective exams with a moderate level of difficulty and no negative mark, JEE Mains is objective, relatively difficult and includes 1/4 negative mark for each wrong answer. The other similarities or differences between the two exams are listed below:

1. CBSE exams cover only class XII syllabus while JEE Mains covers class XI and XII syllabus which raises the difficulty level of the exam a bit higher.

2. Both exams are a combination of theory and application-based questions. While the questions on the CBSE boards have an average level of difficulty, the JEE main questions are more difficult. The main goal of increasing the difficulty level of JEE Mains questions is to weed out the average students and keep the competitive ones in the running.

For class XII students, NCERT books are equivalent to the Holy Bible. The reason is that the CBSE Boards class XII exams come from the various topics and concepts discussed in the NCERT books only. Even for JEE Mains, NCERT books are the best source of preparation. However, due to the higher level of difficulty of the exam, it is recommended to consult the books of other reputable publishers to understand the related extent of a topic or to practice more questions on it. This increases the clarity of concepts, making a student test-ready.

Both exams are slowly approaching and the students’ anxiety and tension meters are shooting up with each passing day. But as they say, ‘the right attitude will help you navigate’. One needs to approach both exams differently. Following are some important tips and tricks that one can adapt in their routine to pass both exams with flying colors for JEE Main 2019:

1. GET A COMPLETE KNOWLEDGE OF YOUR CURRICULUM

Before you start your preparation in full swing, it is very important to have a complete idea of your syllabus for the respective exams. There are some topics that are of little or no importance to JEE Mains while the same topics are relatively important to CBSE boards. Knowing your curriculum will help you decide which areas to focus more on. Once the curriculum is fully understood, it is necessary to focus on the action plan.

2. PREPARE A SCHEDULE AND FULFILL IT RELIGIOUSLY

Everyone makes a schedule, but very few stick to it. It is the latter that emerge as the ultimate winners. Sticking to a schedule helps you stay disciplined about your course syllabus and manage time properly. The schedule should always be divided so that the preparations do not become monotonous. Also, it is necessary to spend enough time on the syllabus of class XI because it occupies almost half of the questions in JEE Mains exam. Ideally, a student should assign weekdays to class XII with at least one hour for class XI review. During the weekend there must be an adequate review and a rigorous practice of the topics worked on during the week. Timetables help a student to complete the syllabus on time and leave room for revision.

3. SET WEEKLY GOALS

Setting goals always gives you the direction to move forward. But one should always set realistic goals and try to get closer to them with each passing day. Setting weekly goals for each subject is the best way to move forward. One should also evaluate oneself at the end of each week to analyze the progress made in the week.

4. PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!

Practice is the key to the college of your dreams. Solving sample test papers and model test papers for CBSE boards gives insight into important questions from an exam point of view. For JEE Mains, solving timed mock tests helps in preparations excellently. It will not only help you analyze your performance, but also help you manage time. Splitting time between all sections and improving your performance under stressful conditions is well understood by regularly attempting and analyzing mock tests.

5. WRITE DOWN THE IMPORTANT THINGS

Take notes of anything that seems important to you. Even if there’s a trick or concept you come across while solving mock tests or practice questions and it’s relevant to the syllabus, write it down. Reviewing these small but important things in a timely manner will go a long way in speeding up your performance.

Finally, dedication is the key. Put all your energies in the right direction and never stop working hard to achieve your goal. Managing both exams can be difficult, but it’s certainly not impossible. It only takes the right attitude to develop the right aptitude that will define your altitude in life.
