Plan the pantry in your new home

Are you in the market for a new home? If so, you may know that kitchens and bathrooms are two of the most important areas to consider when evaluating the merits of one home versus another. You may not be thinking about your next move (oops! You probably want to survive this one first!), but it’s a good idea to know and understand the features that offer the strongest trading space and create the most value among possible new buyers.

Taking a look at kitchens, keep in mind that the “work triangle” concept is an important aspect to consider. The path between the refrigerator, sink, and stove should be in the shape of a triangle to allow for an efficient traffic pattern based on how people cook.

Another important factor is the sweep of uninterrupted countertop space. It may not seem like it during your initial tour, but countertops quickly become cluttered with temporarily placed items or electronics like mixers, speed grills, coffee makers and the like. Look for plenty of open counter space.

Pantry storage is also a critical area to consider. In older times, people used to hang pots and pans from a shelf in the ceiling above the central cutting board. That was really out of necessity due to the smaller average size of the house. Whether you have an older home or enjoy a newer home, pantry storage is one of the critical basics you need to consider.

Pull-out drawers make it much easier to access items in the back and help ensure you actually use the products you’ve already bought, since everything is easier to reach. I’ve even seen storage components to help organize lids to keep them handy and in matching pairs. Stackable bins can corral loose items like tea bags or packets of sweetener, allowing you to see what’s inside while keeping your cabinets tidy.

So as you shop for your new home, think hard about how you cook and how much you value your time. Space Savers has many products to help make a pantry storage plan you can cherish every day.
