Acai Berry Diet Lies

If you haven’t been paying much attention to the media lately, there’s been a lot of talk about a little purple fruit called the acai berry and a lot about the so-called acai berry diet. Unfortunately, some of the talk is based on lies and half-truths, but we’re used to that when a product is hot.

The acai berry is grown in Brazil and is harvested from the acai palm. The tree generally grows in floodplain and swampy areas. Acai has been used by the local population of Brazil for hundreds of years. They eat it fresh and also use it in all kinds of products like drinks, smoothies and even ice cream.

Similar to what happened with the hoodia plant, the US media got wind of the power of the acai berry and has gone wild ever since. In Hoodia’s case, it was a mention on the television show 60 Minutes that helped launch its popularity. He pretty much told the world that hoodia worked and helped control his appetite, so everyone wanted to buy it.

Once demand starts to skyrocket, manufacturers and marketers go nuts trying to be first to market and get their piece of the pie. As with most things sold around the world, and this is especially true for the Internet, some companies do it the right way and others like to go above and beyond in terms of what’s right and what’s wrong. That’s wrong.

Coming back to the Acai Berry diet, companies and marketers are definitely starting to stretch the truth when it comes to acai, and the worst part is the fact that it really isn’t necessary.

The Acai berry has been proven to be one of the best fruits on the planet. There have been some independent studies on it, some medical reviews, and of course, the much-needed celebrity endorsement of how good it is.

One of the biggest endorsements, and ultimately promotions, of the acai berry craze is probably the Oprah show. It’s not because she or her guests said something wild or outrageous to get everyone excited to buy it because she doesn’t need to do that.

Once Oprah introduces something to her guests, something amazing happens that even the best marketers can’t pull off: massive sales. That is exactly what happened with the acai berry and ultimately what is mislabeled as the “acai berry diet.” The trend of being healthy and using acai had started before the show mentioned it, but it definitely had something to do with its meteoric rise as the fruit to eat if you want to be healthy and lose weight.

Actually, it was two of Oprah’s frequent guests who probably had the biggest impact in helping educate the world about Acai. New York Times Best Selling author Dr. Perricone described acai as nature’s perfect energy food. He also crowned it #1 on his Top 10 Superfoods list.

In this list are several fruits and vegetables that contain all kinds of great ingredients that help us from a nutritional and health point of view, full of things like fiber, amino acids, antioxidants, essential fatty acids, vitamins and more.

Acai topped Dr. Perricone’s list because it contained high amounts of antioxidants, essential fatty acids, fiber, and other ingredients all at once, while few of the other superfoods could make the same claim. He also mentions the power of acai in several of his books, which helped corroborate everything that was said about this amazing fruit.

Another of Oprah’s frequent guests is Dr. Oz. Dr. Oz also praised the benefits of acai and how good it was for us to eat. He also described how the antioxidants in acai could help protect our skin, eyes, heart, and other vital organs from free radicals and oxidation. What this means in a nutshell is that acai can help fight premature aging.

Any product that helps fight aging is going to be popular and this is especially true when it comes to women. The only thing that can top that group are men and women looking for the next big weight loss secret.

Unfortunately, that’s where the acai berry diet comes in. People are getting so excited about the potential of acai that they are getting out of control. For example, there was an ad today that said Rachel Ray lost all her weight with acai berry. The ad featured her image and made it appear that she directly endorsed the aforementioned acai berry diet.

The internet is so big and wide that the average celebrity is used to having their pictures thrown around, and sometimes in very unflattering ways, so chances are they’ll just ignore such claims. However, you, the consumer, should be aware that some of the celebrity-sponsored ads are fake.

Again, you usually see that kind of stuff when you don’t have sponsorships. In the case of acai, it has the legitimate thumbs up from powerful celebrities, doctors, and others who say this is great.

Another of the common online ads features Oprah and claims that it is Oprah’s new Acai diet plan. Some would say it’s just a play on words and bad wording when it’s probably closer to false advertising. Oprah doesn’t have an acai diet plan, and neither does Rachel Ray. They are two celebrities who casually mentioned the benefits of the fruit on their shows.

Does the acai berry help you lose weight? Well, it can in terms of reducing fat absorption, recovering from workouts, improving energy, and many other things. Dr. Perricone talks about the fat absorption reduction factor. But, it is not a fat burner. Acai by itself will not make you lose 25lbs in 25 days as another site claim will occur. It is very unlikely that a statement like that is close to reality.

So what is reality? The reality is that acai is good for you. Another reality is that it has strong endorsements from shows like Oprah and doctors like Dr. Perricone and Dr. Oz. A study from the University of Florida even cites that in certain internal laboratory tests, acai was able to kill up to 86% of certain cancer cells.

As for the acai berry diet, the real reality is that it is usually combined with a natural colon cleanse and has been shown to be effective in achieving weight loss. Therefore, the diet is not really based on the acai berry but on a combination of two products. With that said, there are some companies that have enhanced their acai berry formulas with specific ingredients to help speed up the weight loss process.

Check out the site below to learn more about the acai berry diet using the byproduct of colon cleansers, or to see what kinds of ingredients are added to help with weight loss. It’s important to be a savvy shopper and this is especially true when a certain product is so hot that it generates unconfirmed hype or claims that are unverified and sometimes potentially dangerous.

Remember to order acai from manufacturers that are reputable, have established online websites with money-back guarantees, and hopefully a 24-hour live personal contact line.
