Although rich and successful people play golf, the sport is quickly becoming more widespread and popular with everyone. The sport is believed to have started in the 11th century in Scotland and the name comes from the Scottish word “goulf” which means to hit. There are over 35,000 golf courses in the world today and South Africa boasts some amazing courses. Whether the course is in Sun City, Tsitsikamma Forest or by the Indian Ocean, each course has its own charm that makes it special. The Western Cape and Garden Route have a beautiful selection of courses that can be ideally explored on a two-week golf tour. A perfect getaway for the kids, a family, or even any female golf enthusiast!

The tour begins in Cape Town, home to bright lights and a cosmopolitan atmosphere. Accommodation in Cape Town ranges from budget backpackers to upscale luxury hotels, so there is an option for every budget. Courses in Cape Town stretch from suburb to suburb and there are approximately 13 golf courses in the Cape Town area. Locations range from the vineyards and hillside estate at Steenberg, the seaside at Clovelly or the fields of the Southern Suburbs consisting of Rondebosch and Mowbray. Cape Town has plenty of entertainment to offer for evenings or for those who don’t play golf. There are many shopping malls like Cavendish and V&A Waterfront which are favorite holiday spots, Ratanga junction theme park, beautiful beaches, wine farms and tastings and of course Table Mountain. After spending the first two days of the tour in Cape Town, the tour departs for Paarl for two days and two nights.

Paarl is a small town located in the Cape Winelands. There are vineyards and wines to taste, hiking trails to explore, museums to visit, and golf to play. Paarl has two courses; the first is Paarl Golf Club, which is situated on the Boschenmeer Golf & Country Estate. The second is Pearl Valley Signature Golf Estate & Spa, where the course is over 21,000 feet, has 18 holes, and 9 lakes. Accommodation in Paarl is diverse, from cottages, bed and breakfasts to cottages, modern rooms and a manor house. A must visit while in Paarl is Bosman’s in Grande Rioche, a world famous and highly regarded restaurant.

On day five, the tour heads out onto the garden route, first to the county town, George. After checking into one of the many B&Bs, guest houses, hotels, campgrounds or resorts, you’ll have the day off to play golf. George has six golf courses spread throughout the area, some of which were designed by Gary Player and Greg Norman. This includes four courses at the Fancourt Hotel & Country Club Estate that are world class – the Montagu course has been voted the number one course in South Africa. This golf resort is worth visiting to play on stunningly landscaped greens. There is also the George Golf Club and the Glenwood Putt Course. George has beaches, train rides, museums, walks and adventure sports like kloofing and paragliding available. After two days and nights of golf and adventure in George, the tour heads to Tsitsikama for days seven and eight.

Tsitsikamma is the koisan name for “place of many waters”. This area is indeed a place with lush landscapes, scenic mountains, and lots of water! The area forms the Tsitsikamma National Park. The Storms River flows through the area creating a jagged upland and lowland landscape. Accommodation in Tsitsikamma consists of B&Bs, hostels, inns and campsites. After settling into your accommodation, the golf courses await! There is the Dirk Fourie Trust Golf Club and the Langkloof Golf Club. The latter is a nine-hole course and has plans in the works to convert the course into a golf course. Then there is Tsitsikamma Coastal Golf Estate, a place with an incredible view over the lush green coastal panorama. Tsitsikamma also offers the Tsitsikamma Mountains, Monkey World and a nearby elephant park. There are also water sports such as rafting, canoeing, kayaking, and swimming.

After two days of golf and water sports, the tour heads into the Wilderness. This town has a wide variety of accommodation available: hotels on the lagoon or on the beach, guest houses, chalets, B&Bs and even mountain refuges and campsites. The Wilderness has no golf courses, making this the perfect location on your trip to explore the other outdoor sports on offer. Options range from exploring the landscape on horseback and hiking to paragliding. There is also a wonderful steam train ride on the “Outeniqua Choo Tjoe” which travels to George and is part of the Outeniqua Transportation museum. There are also craft markets and the Wilderness National Park.

After spending one night in the Wilderness, the tour transfers to Arniston for day 10. Arniston is a seaside town where whale watching, rock pool snorkeling and sand dune hiking are common practice. Accommodation available is B&Bs, guest houses and cottages, all within the town. Bredasdorp Golf Club is close by and offers a beautiful green to play on. The tour stays in Arniston for one day and one night and then moves on to Somerset West.

Somerset West is located approximately 40 minutes’ drive from Cape Town and hosted the 1996 World Cup of Golf at its Erinvale Golf Course, located at the Erinvale Estate Hotel and Spa. There is also Somerset West Golf Club, Strand Golf Club and Helderberg Village Golf Club. Somerset West is a bustling little town found on the outskirts of the Cape Winelands; which is home to many famous wineries and farms that are well worth a visit. Accommodation is available in hotels, guesthouses, B&Bs, and self-catering options. Other attractions in the city include Somerset Mall, museums, art galleries, and outdoor activities like mountain biking and hiking.

After spending one night in Somerset West, the tour returns to Cape Town for the final two nights and three days to continue the fun at the many golf properties, shopping malls, theatres, beaches, theme parks, wineries, museums and iconic landmarks. of the mother. City.
