South Carolina Aquarium

This mega aquarium is not just home to sea creatures. It is a perfect and beautiful mix of land creatures, reptiles, birds, plants, and sea creatures. The aquarium features a 385,000 gallon aquarium tank, in which daily shows are shown. There are also sharks sharks that allow you to touch sharks and other sea creatures without fear or getting hurt. You should also see the 2201b loggerhead turtle, Caretta, which lives in the large ocean tank.

This 12-acre park features a boardwalk that stretches for over a thousand feet. USS Yorktown and Patriots Point

The USS Yorktown is located at Patriots Point, across the harbor from Charleston, where it can be boarded. The massive ship was the 10th aircraft carrier to serve the US Navy, it received the Presidential Unit Commendation, 5 Battle Stars for serving in Vietnam, and also 11 Battle Stars for serving in WWII. This special vessel was also the vessel selected to retrieve the Apollo 8 astronauts and was also used in the film debut of ‘The Fighting Lady’ in 1944.

Boone Hall Plantation

This plantation stretches for three-quarters of a mile and is popularly known for its moss-covered oak trees and preserving the original slave cabins. It began in 1681 and is one of the oldest working plantations in the United States. The trees look beautiful in the photos despite their age; being planted already in 1743 by the son of Major John Boone. This is a site worth visiting, and the market is stocked with produce from the plantation.

Old Slave Mart Museum

This museum recovers the tales of history, a reserved place within the building where the slave auction took place before the Civil War. What is striking is the Old Exchange and Provost Dungeon where the pirates were imprisoned.

Drayton Room

Drayton Hall is the oldest unrestored plantation house in America and is still open to the public. The attractive aspect of this room is the fact that everything was left intact to give a very good insight into the past. It is one of the few rooms that survived the Civil War and that still remains intact. It contains one of the oldest African American cemeteries, dating back to 1790, which is still in use.

Fort Sumter National Monument

This is where the American Civil War began; April 12, 1861. Its ruins are still well preserved, and the national park rangers tell their stories about how it shaped history.

Ravenel Bridge

Named after Arthur Ravenel Jr., who crosses the Cooper River and joins Mount Pleasant with downtown Charleston, the bridge became a landmark after its completion in 2005. The design and capabilities of the bridge are sufficient to leave one in awe even apart from its pretty design.
