Soul Surfing: Catch the wave of your life
How often have you decided to change something about yourself, such as a negative behavior or thought pattern, and found it very difficult to do so? Do you admonish yourself and firmly resolve to do better?
I’m not a fan of “resolutions”, in the new year or at any other time. As I’m sure you’ve heard, or even experienced, research and reports reveal that most people who set “resolutions” never reach them. There are many reasons for this, but one of the most powerful is our natural resistance to an unhealthy sense of strength: a sense of “should” or “should.” From the very beginning of the “resolution” we are facing ourselves, and the status quo has the advantage.
A better way to approach your creative path is to approach it like you would surf. The sport requires flexibility, balance, timing and endurance. Surfing is therefore a wonderful analogy for living life forcefully and for accessing and creating the joy, love and happiness of your heart’s desire.
And there has never been a better time! On our planet we are awakening to the metaphysical reality of our life and world. Many have accomplished this as individuals in the history of our planet; They have proven to be some of the most wonderful and inspiring teachers, writers, and mentors that have ever lived. The difference today is that we are doing it as a collective. Due to the increasing vibratory field of and on our planet, it is becoming easier for more and more people to achieve a higher vibrating life. Some have called this “breaking through,” awakening, or enlightening.
This “growing field of vibration of and in our planet” is like the wave we surf on: it is huge and can carry many surfers. We are rapidly moving from a strictly physical, time-based, cause-and-effect view of reality to a more metaphysical, infinite, and instantaneous view (and experience) of reality. In this new reality, our thoughts and feelings play a bigger role in developing our creative experience. The need, if there ever was one, for “forcefulness” is greatly reduced. We have less need for the stale energy of forcefulness, as in, “I’m going to make this happen.”
In the new reality, as Michael Beckwith well expressed, “Where there is a will, there is a wall.” This new way of being and working in the world is hard to understand for those of us raised in the Western mindset of independence, hard work, and competition with others to win and get what we want. We detest laziness and deify hardworking and self-sacrificing as successful. But that’s the old model, the old reality thinking.
The second problem with resolutions is: they are “all about me.” The new energy on the planet has to do with collaboration and the contribution of our gifts to the world, at the service of others. Instead of “trying to get” what you want from the world, ask yourself what the world wants from you. You are the bearer of gifts! You are endowed with natural gifts, talents, and inspirations that the world needs right now. Your soul knows what these gifts are, but “you” don’t. You must be still and listen to your soul, to that deeper aspect of yourself that knows how to ride the mega wave of energy that is sweeping our planet right now.
One of the keys to good Soul-Surfing is to raise your vibration. How? Move more and more in the direction of good feelings of trust, openness, curiosity, appreciation, and gratitude. These vibrations occur naturally in the Unified Field, and just going there will raise your vibration. However, if you don’t know how to reliably “go there”, there are many other ways you can raise your vibration. An easy method is to watch a music video on YouTube, called “Adventure in Paradise.” Features Michael Bernard Beckwith, one of the greatest spiritual teachers of our time. While I’m sure he’ll enjoy the fun and light-hearted energy that emanates from the piece, listen carefully to the words and let the truth of him sink into the bones of his being.
This video brings tears to my eyes because the truth it shares is such a miraculous and wonderful blessing. Realizing these teachings is literally the holy grail of life. You are supplied by a renewable resource, this means infinite. When you are connected to your deepest self, you lack nothing! Since nothing is missing, there is nothing to “resolve” (as in “resolve”). However, there are endless opportunities for creation!
Try this:
Relax in the energy of your soul. Take a deep breath and be grateful for the amazing metaphysical forces working in your favor. Sit in a quiet place and ask yourself, “What does the world want from me? What am I here to give right now? What are my gifts that others need most right now?” And then listen to what comes out. Information can come in many forms: words, sounds, visualizations, tastes, and even scents. Now build some intentions from this foundation of soul-informed reality. When you ask for guidance and are truly open to receive (this is surrender, folks!), you will be amazed at what the Universe has in store for you.
