Napoleon Hill’s Golden Rules – The Lost Writings – Book Review

Napoleon Hill is known for interviewing the richest and most successful people of his time, including Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, Charles Schwab, and former US Presidents like Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson. Before Napoleon Hill became a bestselling author, he wrote articles for a magazine called Success Magazine. The core of those articles is what this book is made of.

There are twelve chapters in the book and the first chapter is only four pages long, but it is packed with information that should be read more than once. Hill says that we are all formed and develop “sensory impressions” from the same things; teachings we receive at home, in Sunday school or church (which can be substituted for whatever religious background we have), public or private schools, and newspapers or magazines. The impressions we have are what make up our conscious and subconscious mind and for us to be successful, we need to fine-tune them.

He emphasizes two things in later chapters; suggestion, which is how we influence the minds of others; and autosuggestion, which is how we harness the powers of our own minds. Hill believes that the latter of the two is more important as we need to create in our minds the plan to achieve what we want.

He says that the person who has a solid plan and has the self-confidence to make it work is invincible. Confidence must be created in the mind before that mind is “neutralized.” What Hill means is that our mind can lose focus and must be in a certain state where it will only accept things that will help a person achieve their goals.

In chapter 4, Hill says that there is an “unknown phenomenon” that helps us when we pray. He emphasizes that he “has no connection whatsoever” with organized religion. He does not clarify whether he means that anyone who believes in a higher power can pray or anyone, including atheists, can pray. This is somewhat interesting since those who do not believe in God can obviously pray, but who they pray to is a mystery.

Further on, Hill talks about how we should turn what we are trying to overcome or master into a habit. He says that we should stick to doing whatever we aspire to do until it becomes second nature. He says that we must have the “toughness of a bulldog” and not let anything stop us from getting what we want.

Toward the end, Mr. Hill talks about the power of persuasion, saying that a teacher who can stimulate minds and raise students to above-average standards “will confer a blessing upon the human race unparalleled in the history of the world.” world”. “This emphasizes the important role that educators play. It is crucial that students are enabled to succeed in school by developing their highest level of concentration, which can only happen when they are challenged beyond what they know.” is expected of them.

He ends the book by summing up the Golden Rule Philosophy and tells us not to worry about injustices in the world and people who do not apply the Golden Rule. “You can change the attitude of others towards you by first changing your attitude towards yourself.” others”. Your job is to master yourself and believe that you can succeed by being a force of attraction and then others will follow suit.
