How to Shave Safely With a Safety Razor

Shave Safely With a Safety Razor

Have you ever wondered how a guy can shave with safety razor while sitting in the passenger seat of a car? I think not. While I was in the shop the other day, I asked my barber if he could show me how one shaves without his face being covered by a safety razor. I was surprised when he told me that is possible.

The trick to shaving smooth feels is to shave from the side which gives you a smoother shave with less blade movement. To do this you have to raise your head slightly so that your forehead is level with your nostrils and your lips are lined up with the roof of your mouth. Once you are comfortable with the position and have your eyes open a bit, you should move the razor to the side a half inch and begin the shave. You will probably need a quarter of an inch of distance between the front of your forehead and your nostril.

With most straight shaven men it is usually easy to maintain a clean straight shave without too much effort. It’s the whisker area that tends to be a breeding ground for bacteria so it is best to remove any dead skin cells and then re-flex the blade so that you get a smooth shave. If you do happen to have nicks or cut-outs, you can use a cotton pad to rub them up. Make sure the shave is wet before you apply your first layer of shaving cream. Most good shaving cream is water based so it will not dry out your face or leave a greasy film.

Most people prefer to use a single edge razor because it makes it easier to control the length of the shave. A single edge razor works well in both wet and dry shaving conditions. If you are using a double edged safety razor make sure that you pull the blade across the grain of your face and not against it. This will give you a closer, more comfortable shave and reduce the chance of nicks or cut-outs.

Some people prefer to use electric razors that produce a very close, even shave. Electric razors are great for people who don’t have enough time or want a quick and easy shave. Using an electric shaver means that you don’t have to hold the razor over your face and pull the hair as close as possible. You can get a very smooth shave in seconds by simply pressing down on the button while in the shower. This also helps to close your pores so you will have a close, smooth shave. Be careful however, if you elect to use an electric shaver to make sure that it is very gentle and doesn’t hurt you when you are shaving.

A safety razor must be used in conjunction with a good quality Wet to Dry shaving brush. Wet to Dry brushes are designed specifically to provide a good quality shave while wet. You want a paddle brush that has soft bristles for a comfortable shave and to cover your face with enough water to create a good lather. This combination will provide you with a smooth shave in seconds and provide you with a close, smooth shave as well.
