Holiday Time – Homestay Search in Fiji

It’s been a while since the family ran away, and everyone has decided that Fiji is the place to go, and why not! With its beautiful beaches of tropical vegetation and sun, what better place than Fiji to relax and enjoy family time, away from the madness of everyday life. Now, you just have to choose a place to stay. Of course, you need to ensure that your family has the perfect base from which to explore Fiji. So what are the options when it comes to finding homestay accommodation in Fiji?

You’ll first need to decide which island in Fiji you want to spend your time on; although whichever you choose has the advantage of being relatively small and easy to get around. ‘Island Hopping’ by boat is also a fairly affordable way to see the sights. Still, it can be hard to choose when you have all the tempting sound options like the islands, Pacific Harbor or Coral Coast. While all the places are amazing, the Coral Coast in particular is famous for its beauty and its lagoons.

Many of Fiji’s islands were formed over 150 million years ago as a result of volcanic activity and the archipelago consists of 332 islands, of which 110 are inhabited. There is still geothermal activity on the islands of Vanua Levu and Taveuni today. The two main islands are Viti Levu and Vanua Levu and the capital, Suva, is located on Viti Levu, although the international airport is in Nadi.

Then there are the activities: If you select a good family resort, it will usually offer a variety of fun things for everyone to do together. Once you’ve spent enough time sunbathing around the pool, you might want to take the kids for a bike ride to a local town. Or, if they like to swim, hiring some snorkels to get a better look at the amazing aquatic life could be a great way to spend the afternoon. Some resorts have quite novel family activities up their sleeves, like cultural tours or on-site hair braiding sessions.

One thing you don’t want to worry about while you’re away is meal prep! It wouldn’t be a real family vacation if mom still has to cook. So when choosing a homestay in Fiji, look for places where they have an on-site restaurant and bar. That way, you can relax with the kids while someone else does all the hard work.

So you have your criteria for your vacation, there are many ways to find that perfect spot: you can ask friends who have vacationed in Fiji, you can seek the advice of a travel agent, or you can browse online. Most reputable accommodation providers will have a website that allows you to check out all the facilities they offer, see photos of their rooms and compare prices.

Sometimes it can be expensive to take the family on vacation, but luckily Fiji has many first-class resorts that provide family-friendly accommodation that don’t carry steep price tags. It’s possible to find well-presented (even luxurious!), clean, safe and fun places to stay that won’t break the bank. And be sure to take the kids to watch some traditional ‘Meke’ dancing – it will be a memorable part of your Fiji experience!
