Exceeding the bar: living up to your expectations

Do you hope you can achieve greatness? What if you hear the phrase, “you were born for greatness”, believe those words to be true, about you? Do those words increase your life expectancy in your ability to achieve greatness? Do those words motivate you to set your bar (expectation) high?

If it has not yet become apparent to you, understand that you must come to regard your chances of achieving greatness as probable or certain. That is, if you are going to set the bar high, you must have a high level of expectation of yourself. Also, if you are to set the standard, YOU must be your main advocate for what you think and know you can do. You cannot achieve your greatness if you do not expect that you can be great. If you don’t expect that you can be great, you will never set the bar high enough to achieve your greatness.

Your level of expectation of yourself is the bar you set for yourself. Your level of expectation in your abilities to achieve greatness is akin to setting a bar that moves on to the next side. The higher the bar, the more challenging the cross will be for the other side. If the bar were here, at your ankles, would you expect to fail? Of course not! I would expect to go over the bar, without tripping, to the other side. However, if the bar was set on your shoulders, you would expect the process of getting to the other side to be more challenging. However, would you doubt your ability to do so? you shouldn’t. With each level you set the bar higher, you’ll experience yourself expanding (ie, knowledge, skills, experience) in new ways that can be beneficial to you and your ultimate success.

When was the last time you evaluated everything you can do and summed it up to achieve the same success? Can you honestly say that you are okay with stepping out of your comfort zone to achieve the things you envision? Have you been able to connect to a level of expectation where you can achieve greatness? Are you in a state of connection with your greatness?

Connecting to your greatness requires that you acknowledge your innate ability to be great at whatever you set out to do. Yes, others may tell you that you can be great, but you have to be able to think about it, see it, and do it for yourself. You must be comfortable expecting greatness from yourself, especially when others do not. When you comfortably connect with the understanding that you can achieve greatness, you will be able to exceed the expectations you have set for yourself. Although others will also place expectations on you, the expectations you place on yourself will be the expectations that will take you higher in your personal and professional success.

Therefore, challenge yourself. For every endeavor you engage in and for every space your presence occupies, do yourself a favor and remember to connect with your greatness in the hope that you can be great. When you place an expectation level on your abilities, it will allow you to:

– Set the bar (determine the goals you want to achieve),

– Maneuver the bar (strategy of the necessary steps to achieve your goals), and

– Exceed the bar (do the work necessary to meet and achieve your goals).
