On the other hand, a symbol is a representation of an abstract idea with a sign, shape, color, etc. by convention, association or likeness. Signs and symbols are synonymous terms that express the same meaning. Symbolism are the ideas behind the symbols used for the production of the work. This representation of the material object is not simply for its own interest or beauty, but represents an abstract idea.

Symbols embody the ideas, norms, values, and beliefs of a group, association, ethnic society, or nation. Signs and symbols are easily identified by the characteristics listed below.

3. You must reach the appropriate level of understanding of the target audience. A good sign or symbol must be able to be understood by all members of the population. This includes both the literate and illiterate classes of society. Despite the variation in their educational levels, all the target audience must be able to understand it.

4. Must be smaller: symbols are usually smaller in dimension and should be able to reproduce at a faster rate without difficulty. In addition, it must be visible, albeit smaller, from all directions.

5. Can be designed in one color. Symbols and signs are designed primarily in one color, preferably black, and in silhouette form. However, some posters of companies, associations and institutions are sometimes colored to reflect the beliefs, values ​​and ideologies of the respective group.
